Strengthening partnership with Media Enterprises to enhance the integration of Burundi within the EAC

The Ministry of East African Community held, on Friday May 7, 2010, a sensitization workshop on the content of the protocol establishing the Common Market for East African Community in the intention of media professionals, spokespersons of different ministries and state institutions. The activities of this workshop were held in Sun Safari Hotel in Bujumbura.

Proceeding to the opening of this workshop, the chief of cabinet to the Ministry of East African Community Mr. Jean Bosco BAREGE said that in recognition of the vital role of media in the area of public opinion, the aforementioned Ministry has a strong desire to foster and strengthen partnerships with media companies to create a front line for the successful integration of Burundi in the East African Community.

According to Mr. BAREGE, the role of media professionals and state institutions is essential and vital in disseminating information on the choices made by the Government in line with the strategic choice of Burundi integration in the East African Community. In this context, he invited the media professionals to contribute as much as possible to the dissemination and popularization of all information relating to the integration of Burundi in the East Africa Community.

During this workshop, participants attended presentations on the state of progress the Burundi integration in the East African Community, the contents of the Protocol establishing the Common Market for East African Community and the role of media in promoting the interests of Burundi in the Community. The presentations of these themes were punctuated by sessions of discussions and debates in view of a related thorough understanding. The above mentioned workshop, do we note, was part of the accelerating of the Burundi integration in the East African Community and the popularization of the contents of the Protocol establishing the Common Market of the East African Community signed at Arusha, United Republic of Tanzania on 20 November 2009 by the five Heads of State Member Countries.
