Biography of the Honorable Leóntine Nzeyimana, Minister to the Office of the President for the East African Community affairs
Honorable Léontine Nzeyimana was born on December 27th, 1973 in the Commune of Nyanza Lac in Makamba Province, in the Southern of the country.
In 2005 she obtained a Master Degree in International Relations at the "United States International University." She also holds a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration obtained in 2002 at the Tumaini University of Iringa, in United Republic of Tanzania.
Since last August until her appointment by a Presidential Decree No. 100/132 of 8 May 2012 as Minister to the Office of the President for the East African Community Affairs, Leontine Nzeyimana was elected Member of Parliament for the Province of Makamba. In the National Assembly, she was Secretary of the Standing Committee in charge of Political Affairs, Administrative, Foreign Affairs and the East African Community.
She actively participated in the Study, Analysis and Adoption of Bills and protocols that were submitted to the Commission as well as those submitted to other committees. Also at the National Assembly, Leóntine Nzeyimana was appointed first as parliamentary administrator with the role of monitoring and controlling the budget management of the lower house of Parliament. As an elected representative of the people, she is constantly listening to the people of her district and is actively involved in carrying out development work.
The Minister Léontine Nzeyimana was also an official at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) from 2009 to 2010 where she was responsible for the project "Support to National Consultations on the establishment of Justice Mechanisms and Transition in Burundi." In UNDP, Léontine Nzeyimana also was, from 2007 to 2009, responsible for two justice projects namely “the reduction of violence and putting end of settling of scores on the boost of report and execution programme of stopping judgment made by courts, with the capacity building of the judiciary body and rehabilitation of basic judiciary system in order to reduce conflicts within the communities through construction and equipment of court of residence.
The Minister Léontine Nzeyimana also worked at the Bank of the Republic of Burundi from 2006 until 2007. She was assistant to the Governor of the BRB, where she was responsible in particular for organizing the daily agenda of the Governor, translating documents from French to English and vice versa. In 2005, Léontine Nzeyimana was assistant to the Chief Adviser to the rule of law project for the rehabilitation of Burundi.
She speaks four languages, including Kirundi, French, English and Kiswahili. She also has computer skills including Word, Excel, Power Point, Internet Explorer, Atlas, etc..
